As a professional athlete of heel-and-toe walking race for 50 kilometers, she has been fascinated by sports since childhood. Walking race is an endurance event, and the training is extremely boring and full of hardships. She often needs to walk long distances on her own, day after day. There are also her sweat soaked training clothes, rain filled sports shoes, bleached soles and plain cheeks.

In addition to training, Yang has almost no personal time just like training at least five hours a day, sometimes even more. Yang Shuqing recalled the scene at that time: "when I stood on the track, I was very excited instead of stage fright. Listening to the familiar cry beside the track during the race: ‘Come on, Chinese team!’ When I crossed the finish line in the flag, I knew I had made it! And I'm not alone. My parents, my coach, my provincial team, my country is always with me. At the moment, I deeply understand the connotation represented by the five-star red flag - it gives me the opportunity to stand on the track of the world championships. Although I only got the third place, it was the greatest glory in my whole life.”
