Teachers and Students Attended the 50th International Conference on Sino-Tibetan Languages

During November 25 to 28, the 50th International Conference on Sino-Tibetan Languages and Linguistics was held by the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing Fragrant Hill Hotel. Professor Zhou Junxun, Huang Yang and Zheng Wuxi, PhD student Gao Tao and Zhu Fumei from School of Humanities were invited to attend. The international association of Sino-Tibetan Languages was established in 1968 by professor James A. Matisoff, who was the expert of the field from Berkeley College. This year coincides with professor Matisoff’s 80th birthday. Professor Matisoff had attended the conference as well and made a keynote speech named General History and Future Prospects for our ICSTLL’s with historic significance. There were more than 200 scholars from US, France, Japan, Australia, Singapore and China had attended the conference and discussed hot issues.

Professor Zhou Junxun had hosted the discussion of grammaticalization and made a report. Doctor Huang Yang, Zheng Wuxi and two PhD students also made reports separately, which were involved in historical linguistics, grammaticalization and syntactic of Sino-Tibetan languages. This conference had strengthened association with peers and improved notability of our School in this field. It is reported that the collected papers will be published by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2018.
