Dr. Huang Yang was Invited to the 23rd International Biennial Conference on Historical Linguistics

During July 31 to August 4, the 23rd International Biennial Conference on Historical Linguistics was held in University of Texas at Saint Antonio in USA. Dr. Huang Yang from School of Humanities was invited to attend this conference.

This conference is the highest level of the area of historical linguistics, which is held irregularly in famous universities of North America, Europe and Australia. Conference papers must be screened strictly by international scholars, and then the attendee list will be definitely settled. Only two mainland Chinese scholars included Dr.Huang were invited to this conference. Dr. Huang made a group report named Spacial Marking in the Muya Language, and intensely discussed with other scholars from America, France, Switzerland, Germany and Japan.

This conference divided into four parts: conference discussion, group discussion, group workshop and group roundtable meeting. The subjects under discussion were on a wide range of historical linguistics. Many world renowned scholars, like William Labov, Elizabeth Traugott, Brian Joseph, Sarah Thomason, Paul Hopper, were invited to made reports. Besides, the young scholars session was specially created for offering a stage of communication to main force in the area.

On this conference, international scholars learned more about Muya Language, which is one of the long-term research focuses. Meanwhile, Dr. Huang’s research introduced more local points to international scholars and developed the international works of our School.
